Hi, and welcome to Homeplace.
I'm Rachel, the eldest daughter in this mother-daughters blog. My mom, Heidi, grew up in a small town of 800 people in Iowa and moved to San Diego, CA in her early 20s. My sister, Meredith, and I grew up in sunny San Diego, but we each attended colleges on the east coast. We both are lucky to call Boston home, living about three miles apart from each other.
My mom explained "Homeplace" as a farming concept--it refers to the main farmhouse on a large farm of many houses and buildings, the center of family activities. Our family is spread across the country, and so 'homeplace' is more of an idea than a physical home. But we feel at home when we are together, so as we live 3,000 miles apart we find our homeplace in each other, sharing recipes, party ideas, and special life events. We'll share those here on this blog.
